A visual and symbolic feast with dances that ranged in style from concert contemporary to hip-hop, the Contemporary Dance Theater from Brigham Young University, Utah, USA; saw Bangalore head towards Chowdiah Memorial Hall. The Contemporary Dance Theatre, formerly known as the Dancers’ Company, is BYU’s premier modern dance group and was formed in 1975.
In a kaleidoscope of motion, color and sound, this 16-member company kept the audience enthralled with a diverse repertoire depicting the ‘Rhythm of Life’.
‘The Rhythm of Life’ portrays the rhythm of the world around brought to life through dance and music. From our heartbeat to the rhythm of the street, rhythm connects us all. In a prismatic mixture of motion, color and sound the rhythm of people and cultures will be reflected through a variety of dance styles. The performance renders a broad spectrum of innovative dance styles that soothes the soul, the spirit and the heart. It is the best of Contemporary Dance as we know it at BYU.
Commenting on the occasion, said Simeran Bhasin, Marketing Head, Fastrack, “Fastrack has always been about connecting with the youth. Dance today is one of the most popular forms of expression among the youth. So it seemed perfect to associate with IMAS and bring Contemporary Dance Theater down to Bangalore.”
The tour to India will mark a return of the Contemporary Dance Theatre to the country. In 2001 the company performed in cities throughout India including Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Coimbatore and Chennai. Many of these cities have been revisited during their summer 2012 tour.
