Androgyny Is Rocking Every Fashionista

“I don’t believe that there are separate clothing styles or hair styles for men and women. The great advantage of having androgyny elements in your clothing or style is that you can actually look really stylish without shelling out too much of money”, says Imnah Felix, a hard core follower of androgynous style.

Wearing a pink top or a masculine jacket by either a man or a woman has become a very common scenario among the young crowd. They say that clothing should be free of gender bias.

Pranita Sharma, an aspiring Bangalore based model, said, “Androgynous clothing and style gives me a lot of freedom to stay unique in the crowd. Also being fashionable doesn’t mean that you should stick to the gender – clothing style.” “Mix and match will help you have your own style statement and it will leave you high on style quotient,” she added.

Accessorizing yourself like a woman or wearing some kajal or keeping long hair and then styling them into corn rows are the favourites of the youngsters. Imnah said, “I love braiding a strand of my hair and leaving the rest cut short in different lengths. People stare a lot but I don’t care because it is my personal style.”

Celebrities like Michael Jackson, Adam Lambert, Marilyn Manson, Kate Moss etc have set the styles to be followed in a brilliant way. People loved their expertise in singing and acting, while the androgyny style they pulled off effortlessly was never loved less.

“It is an absolute pleasure to head out like Michael Jackson or Marilyn Manson because you get compliments from your friends stating the comparison you have with them. I am sure that anyone would love those compliments,” said Siddharth Jeevagan, a Computer Science Engineering student from M.S.Ramaiah Institute of Technology.

Designers in the fashion fraternity feel that androgynous dressing and style is a way to get the best out of both men and women. They also feel that this generation likes to mix and match, as it gives them a lot of space to experiment and explore fashion.

Anuradha Paul, a Bangalore based fashion designer, said, “I feel that androgynous clothing and styles are very chic, experimental and gorgeous. It gives immense opportunity to both men and women to brand their looks.” “As a designer I strongly feel that it gives me ample space to showcase my creativity,” She added.
